WuXi AppTec is cutting a small number of roles at a facility in St. Paul, MN, a company spokesperson told Endpoints News in an email.

“This action was taken due to a shift in market conditions over the past 18 months. Affected employees received a severance package and were offered outplacement services,” the spokesperson said. The company said the cuts affected a “small percentage” of workers, without saying exactly how many.

The St. Paul facility specializes in biocompatibility testing and chemical characterization for medical device, combination and tissue products, and provides manufacturing for tissue-based products.

WuXi AppTec has 12 sites in the US, another 20 sites in Asia, and four in Europe and the Middle East. As of April 4, the company employs 41,000 people globally, according to its website.

The Biosecure Act has thrown WuXi AppTec into the spotlight after naming it a “company of concern,” with the goal to restrict its business with US biopharma companies. The law could be a blow to WuXi, whose revenue is heavily dependent on US customers.
